An apple a day!

. . . Hmm, we're sure that the old adage still holds true; however- -

MMABSE Awarded many more than one apple on this special day.

SUCCESS IN SPLENDOR

The Metropolitan Milwaukee Alliance of Black School Educators (MMABSE) applauded excellence in teaching at its Fourth Annual Teacher of the Year Recognition Gala on Friday, May 4, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel – Airport. Approximately 150 teachers in the Milwaukee Public Schools received crystal apple awards in recognition of their success teaching urban public school students. Honorees were chosen by their schools for closing the academic achievement gap through use of effective, research-proved instructional practices.

The event was attended by 1000 well wishers including the Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction, the MPS Superintendent, members of the MPS Board of School Directors, and the Executive Director of the teachers’ union. Also present to congratulate the honorees were the Gala Corporate Sponsors who brought greetings.

Honorees were selected for the most prestigious local award given to Milwaukee Public Schools classroom teachers. MMABSE’s recognition ceremony is the largest of its kind in Milwaukee.

Honorees included teachers of every grade from kindergarten through high school, as well as special education and alternative school programs. Honorees ranged from those with five years of teaching experiences to others with as many as 35.

Pictures of the honorees will be displayed at the district’s Central Services Building at the request of the MPS Superintendent, a staunch supporter of the Gala.

So successful was the 2007 Gala that MMABSE is exploring a new venue to better accommodate the increasing numbers of guests.
