Metropolitan Milwaukee Alliance of Black School Educators
Policy Commissions
The Metropolitan Milwaukee Alliance of Black School Educators (MMABSE) has five commissions organized for the purpose of affording meaningful dialogue and participation of members in order to enhance the attainment of the goals of the Alliance.
Each commission prepares and presents bi -annual reports including statements of beliefs, goals, and plans of action consistent with the philosophy of the Alliance. Each commission elects, by majority vote, a chairperson, chairperson-elect, secretary, and other commission officers or representatives, as prescribed by the bylaws .These officers serve terms that are concurrent with the terms of officers of the Alliance. The commissions select representatives or other officers as deemed necessary.
Members serve on a commission which parallels their job function or interest:
Governance in Education Commission: This commission examines proposed/existing federal, state, and local government statutes and regulations pertaining to school districts or prevailing policies of local governing boards of school districts or institutions of higher education in the metropolitan Milwaukee area to assure that the most advantageous policies regarding the welfare of all students particularly those of African-American descent and staff are in effect. Where analysis of existing statutes, regulations, of policies suggests that modifications are required, this commission develops proposed new policy, regulation or legislation. This commission works collaboratively with elected officials, community-based organizations, lobbyist, and the media.
District Administration/ Local School Districts Commission: This commission reviews and works toward changing prevailing policies of Boards of local school districts and the Department of Public Instruction to ensure that needs and concerns of of all students particularly those of African-American descent are addressed in the learning environment. It addresses concerns related to the administration and governance of local school districts. The focus of the commission also includes the management of local schools and the exploration of innovative practices related to school operations.
Higher Education Commission:
This commission monitors the status of all of students particularly those of African-American descent in post-secondary institutions. This commission encourages efforts to increase the number of African-American students in all fields of higher education, especially teacher education.
Program Development, Research & Evaluation Commission:
This commission monitors, reviews and evaluates the educational programs of school districts in the metropolitan Milwaukee area to support and recommend to the districts the implementation of practices that have proven to be successful for all students with a focus of those of African-American descent.
Parent Commission:
This commission is composed of members who are parents and/or court recognized advocates. The function of this commission is directly related to the motivation and collaboration of parents who support the mission of the Alliance. It serves to promote an open, inclusive and supportive structure for families seeking quality educational services that promote best practices, research-based programs and partnerships for the development of all children with a focus on those of African-American descent.
